Call for Proposals
For the Southeast Regional Institute on Deafness (SERID) 2023 Conference
Making Connections & Building Bridges: Together, We Create Change

October 26-29, 2023
SERID focuses on professional development of individuals who work with persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind and late-deafened. The conference is designed to allow participants to explore the most cutting-edge principles, strategies, and tools that will enable them to provide efficient and effective services to those they serve. SERID 2023 will consist of concurrent sessions, plenary sessions, pre-conference workshops and exhibits.
Suggested Guidelines
Presentation proposals should address effective practices, strategies, innovations and tools for services provided to individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf-Blind, and/or late-Deafened on topics including but not strictly limited to:
- Rehabilitation and Employment
- Education and Transition Services
- Mental Health/Substance Abuse
- Technology and Accommodations
- Advocacy, Ethics and Law
- Effective Communication Access
- Diversity
- Trauma
- Advocacy
- Interpreting
- Pre-ETS
- Rapid Engagement
*All proposals must include the following information:
- Title and Format of Presentation. (Format options: Pre-conference training 4 hours, Breakout sessions will last for 75 minutes, Keynote presentation 75 minutes – 90 minutes).
- Abstract (Times New Roman, 12 point font, MS Word, 1 ½ inch margins). *Abstract should explain how the presentation relates to the theme and should be 500 words or less.
- Primary topic(s) addressed (see suggested topics above)
- Three learning objectives
- Lead presenter name, title, and one page resume/vita.
- Name and contact information (email address, work phone, fax number, mailing address) of each presenter.
*The deadline for submission is Friday, April 28, 2023. Presenters are required to pay all fees associated with the conference. Each presenter will be limited to a maximum of two presentations. Proposals must be sent to workshop@serid.org. The subject of the email should be “SERID Conference Proposal”.

Call for Proposals Important Information
Upon submission of your proposal, you will receive a confirmation of receipt message.
A review committee will select the presentations from submissions received through this Call for Proposals.
The lead presenter will be the review committee’s contact person. Lead presenters are responsible for notifying their co-presenters of acceptance, rejection, scheduling, and any other information provided by the conference committee.
You will need to bring you own computer for your presentation. A packet will be sent upon acceptance of the proposal which will include more information. At that point we will need to know if you have a PC or MAC, current operating system as well as what A/V equipment you will need for your presentation and your preferred mode of communication.
